Salary: $85,000–$90,000 annually

The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Curator of American Painting & Drawing to support the research, interpretation, and presentation of the American Wing’s collection, which spans the 18th to 19th centuries. The role involves contributing to acquisitions, installations, publications, donor relations, and programming. The curatorial focus is on telling inclusive stories within the context of American art history.
Working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, the Assistant Curator will develop new approaches to the museum’s evolving collections and engage diverse audiences through scholarship, lectures, and gallery teaching.
Candidate Profile

PhD (or ABD) in art history or American studies (focus on 18th–19th c. preferred)

2–5 years of museum experience

Demonstrated scholarly research, writing, and curatorial practice

Experience with collection management, interpretation, and public engagement
