Te Papa is looking for an Assistant Curator Art (Special Projects) to work in support role to our Senior Curator Art as we embark on an exciting new programme of art exhibitions and commissions. This is an ideal development opportunity for an emerging contemporary art curator to work closely with and learn from Te Papa’s art curatorial team. The position is a fixed-term contract for 14 months.

This role requires:

• a post-graduate qualification in an art history, fine arts, curatorial studies and/or museum studies, or equivalent
• outstanding oral and written communication skills
• strong research skills and attention to detail
• experience working on exhibitions and/or writing about contemporary art
• passion for contemporary art and working with artists
• familiarity with the requirements of new media and installation art
• excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop a rapport with a wide range of people
• commitment to cross-cultural dialogues, and interest in working in a bicultural and interdisciplinary environment
