National Museums Scotland is seeking an Assistant Curator for its West, South and Southeast Asian collections, based in the Global Arts, Cultures and Design department. The role reports to the Principal Curator, Asia Section, and focuses on developing expertise—preferably in Southeast Asian collections—while contributing to curatorial competence and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to curatorial expertise and research on Asian collections
- Apply subject knowledge to improve documentation programmes
- Support collections care and conservation following best practice
- Supervise and guide volunteers in curatorial projects
- Contribute to Learning & Engagement projects to reach diverse audiences
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and access policies
Candidate Profile
- Degree in art history, anthropology, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of, or strong interest in, West, South, and Southeast Asian collections
- Experience (paid or unpaid) in museums or similar environments
- Strong ICT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
