The National Galleries of Scotland is seeking an Assistant Curator to support the European and Scottish Art team (1500–1945) during a 9-month maternity cover. Based in the Collection & Research department at the Mound in Edinburgh, the role is ideal for a detail-oriented and organised professional with a keen interest in provenance research.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in curatorial work across displays, acquisitions, loans, and research
- Conduct provenance research, especially relating to spoliation cases
- Answer collection enquiries and contribute to audience engagement
- Support interpretive content such as gallery talks and digital outputs
- Work with drawings, watercolours, and prints within the historical collection
Candidate Profile
- Background in Scottish and European Art (1500–1945)
- Experience working in a gallery, museum, or heritage collection setting
- Skilled in research, communication, and project coordination
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
