The National Galleries of Scotland is seeking an Assistant Curator to support the European and Scottish Art team (1500–1945) during a 9-month maternity cover. Based in the Collection & Research department at the Mound in Edinburgh, the role is ideal for a detail-oriented and organised professional with a keen interest in provenance research.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in curatorial work across displays, acquisitions, loans, and research
Conduct provenance research, especially relating to spoliation cases
Answer collection enquiries and contribute to audience engagement
Support interpretive content such as gallery talks and digital outputs
Work with drawings, watercolours, and prints within the historical collection

Candidate Profile

Background in Scottish and European Art (1500–1945)
Experience working in a gallery, museum, or heritage collection setting
Skilled in research, communication, and project coordination
Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
