Job Summary
Join a unique collaboration between The National Gallery, London, and Turner-Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller. We’re embarking on a groundbreaking, large-scale participatory performance art commission, “The Triumph of Art,” to be presented in partnership with four national institutions across the UK and Trafalgar Square. We’re seeking four Assistant Curators to be seconded to our partner organizations (The Box in Plymouth, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, Mostyn in Llandudno, and The Playhouse, Derry-Londonderry) to support the development and execution of this exciting new project.
Responsibilities
- Implementing all relevant objectives set by the Project Curator and local line manager, adhering to timelines and budgets.
- Coordinating and executing an artist-led research and development process, including a participatory Public Programme at Mostyn, Llandudno, in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Managing the production of the performance project.
- Overseeing documentation of the project at Mostyn, Llandudno, and in collaboration with project partners.
- Contributing to any relevant project publications in conjunction with The National Gallery.
- Day-to-day Project and Budget Management at Mostyn, Llandudno, including regular reporting.
- Facilitating communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders at Mostyn, Llandudno, including The National Gallery.
- Cultivating relationships with local community groups relevant to the project.
- Undertaking any necessary tasks to ensure the successful completion of the Jeremy Deller commission.
- Participating in the Curatorial Network of the project and sharing skills and knowledge regularly.
- Undertaking additional non-commission-related tasks at Mostyn, Llandudno.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in project management of art projects, encompassing budget management and timely delivery.
- Proven track record in developing public programs for arts organizations.
- Established experience in building relationships with community groups and organizations.
- Proficient in clear and concise English communication, catering to both specialist and general audiences.
- Proficiency in a wide range of computer packages and systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities within a complex project involving multiple partners and stakeholders.
- Interest in various curatorial approaches to contemporary art.
- Willingness to communicate artistic and curatorial processes to a broad public through digital and other media.
- Ability to effectively communicate artistic and curatorial processes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail in all tasks, whether simple or complex.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, clear-headed, and effective under pressure.
- Interest in UK arts organizations outside of London.
- Basic proficiency in Welsh language (written and spoken) would be advantageous.
- A deep understanding of performance and participatory art, demonstrated through relevant experience.
- A strong connection and knowledge of the local area of Llandudno.
- Demonstrated experience in managing, producing, and delivering art projects in the public realm.
