Assistant Curator, Learning and Interpretation

A cornerstone of the West Kowloon Cultural District, M+ is Hong Kong’s new museum for visual culture, encompassing twentieth and twenty-first century art, design and architecture, and moving image from Hong Kong, China, Asia, and beyond.

Since 2012, M+ has been presenting diverse public programmes and exhibitions, and is amassing a permanent collection, in the run-up to the scheduled 2019 public opening of the museum building designed by Herzog & de Meuron with TFP Farrells and Ove Arup & Partners HK.

The M+ Pavilion, the first permanent building to be completed in WKCD, will serve as the venue for the exhibitions organised by M+ in the run up to the completion of the main M+ building in 2019.

You will be responsible for:

  • assisting the curator in developing, implementing and managing innovative learning and interpretive programmes with a focus on visual art, design, architecture and moving image;
  • creating and developing learning resources, talks, tours and public programmes for a wide range of visitors, such as schools groups, educators and adults;
  • developing ongoing relationships with docents and implementing training and communication plans to enhance mediation skills and discipline knowledge;
  • conducting research in fields such as learning and teaching pedagogy, interpretation strategy, with an aim to offer a range of learning tools that allows for an expanded participation and engagement for all visitors; and
  • assisting the Learning and Interpretation team in all events and activities with administrative support.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in art history, art education, fine arts, design, architecture, cultural management or equivalent;
  • have at least 4 years of experience in coordinating, planning and / or implementing learning and other public programmes;
  • be able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment;
  • demonstrate administrative experience and research skills preferably in programming of an arts and cultural organisation;
  • be highly organised and detail-oriented; and
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
