About LAS Art Foundation

LAS is an art foundation about the future. It works with visionary artists, thinkers and institutions to develop ground-breaking projects and experiences. These investigate topics ranging from artificial intelligence and quantum computing to ecology and biotechnology — illuminating the intersections between art, science and technology. The programme spans exhibitions, performances, educational programming, publications and research projects. Overview

LAS’s Curatorial team is responsible for developing, planning, and realising ambitious artistic projects and discursive programmes in site-specific exhibitions and online. As a future-facing institution, LAS is interested in supporting experimental artistic practice and exploring new models for exhibition-making and community-building. We seek an Assistant Curator to join our team who is deeply engaged with artistic practices bringing emerging technologies and science into new imaginaries of the future. The Assistant Curator will work on exhibition, live and online projects as well as publications, research and public programming. The role requires creativity and the emotional intelligence to communicate with care with artists, colleagues and collaborators.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with internal and external teams to assist in the conception, planning and
  • realisation of exhibitions, projects and programmes
  • Coordination across teams, artists, collaborators and external partners and stakeholders
  • Research support
  • Preparation and updating of research and programme presentations
  • Participation in the development and design of exhibition projects
  • Participation in the planning and implementation of live, public, educational and
  • community programmes in online and in-person formats
  • Contribution to the conception, writing and organisation of texts, including project
  • descriptions, wall texts, exhibition booklets and catalogues, and other publications
  • Planning and supervision of artistic interventions as part of LAS Online
  • Contribution to curatorial workshops and ideation
  • Support for additional projects by arrangement

Qualifications

  •  2 or more years work experience in a relevant curatorial role
  • Strong professional track record in administering, planning and implementing exhibitions
  • and programmes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English
  • Close familiarity with museum and contemporary art venue practices
  • Proficiency in Google Apps G Suite

Person Specification

  • Based in Berlin (or willing to relocate)
  • Fluent in German and English
  • Interested in emerging technology, science and the artistic imaginary
  • Invested in accessibility and accommodating the needs of diverse audiences, participants
  • and contributors
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as programmes require
