Position Overview
The J. Paul Getty Museum is seeking a dedicated Assistant Curator to join the Paintings department. This full-time position will focus on the collection of Italian, French, Spanish, and British paintings before 1800. The Assistant Curator will collaborate with senior curators and colleagues to develop, manage, and maintain the collection, contributing to the Museum’s mission of public engagement and education.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply advanced art history knowledge to curatorial tasks.
- Conduct scholarly research and propose acquisitions.
- Organize smaller exhibitions and devise gallery installations.
- Collaborate with other museums, scholars, and collectors globally.
- Contribute to digital and social media programming.
- Participate in the collection’s digitization and management.
- Foster relationships with donors and potential sponsors.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in art history or related field; Ph.D. preferred.
- 2-4 years of curatorial experience.
- Specialization in Italian, French, Spanish, or British painting before 1800.
- Fluency in at least one foreign language, preferably Italian, French, or Spanish.
- Strong research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in collection and digital asset management.
