The Royal Collection Trust is seeking an Assistant Curator of Photographs to join its Conservation and Curatorial section at Windsor Castle. With over 500,000 photographs dating from the 1840s to the present day, this is one of the world’s most significant photographic collections.
Position Overview
The Assistant Curator will support the curatorial team through research, cataloguing, interpretation, and the development of exhibitions. The role includes delivering talks and tours, maintaining accurate online records, supporting loans and displays across multiple sites, and collaborating across departments. The successful candidate will also contribute ideas for new exhibitions and digital engagement.
Candidate Profile
- Strong knowledge of the history of photography and photographic processes
- Previous curatorial experience in a museum, gallery, or historic house
- Background in art history and understanding of conservation needs for photographic materials
- Excellent research, project management, and communication skills
- Experience preparing talks and content for varied audiences, including social media
- Attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
- Eagerness to learn from a unique and world-renowned collection
Contract Details
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per annum
- One permanent role and one 9-month maternity cover position available
