Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD)

MoAD, a contemporary art museum, celebrates Black cultures and stimulates engaging conversations through art from the African Diaspora. Located in San Francisco, MoAD is among the few museums globally dedicated exclusively to African Diaspora culture, offering an array of exhibitions and public programs.

Opportunity Overview

The Assistant Curator of the Art of the African Diaspora is a unique role focused on African diasporic art and culture. This position involves a collaborative effort between SFMOMA and MoAD. The Assistant Curator will play a pivotal role in curating exhibitions, enhancing collections, and fostering institutional connections.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and manage collaborative projects and exhibitions across SFMOMA and MoAD.
  • Conduct research and develop exhibitions that enhance understanding of African diasporic art.
  • Engage with the community and stakeholders through educational programs and presentations.
  • Oversee the accession process and contribute to the museums’ collection strategies.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Master’s degree in relevant fields such as African Diaspora Studies or Art History.
  • At least three years of curatorial experience in an arts or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of African diasporic art and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and within diverse teams.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based in San Francisco with a requirement for onsite work at SFMOMA and MoAD.
  • Salary ranges from $74,469 to $90,125 annually.
  • The position requires adherence to health and safety guidelines, including COVID-19 vaccination.
