Contract: Temporary (3-year at-will term)
Salary: $76,703 – $90,176 per year

SFMOMA, in partnership with MoAD, seeks an Assistant Curator of the Art of the African Diaspora. The role is dedicated to advancing the visibility of African diasporic art across both institutions. Reporting to SFMOMA, with up to 50% of time devoted to MoAD projects, the curator will collaborate on exhibitions, acquisitions, and public programs, while acting as a bridge between both institutions’ curatorial and engagement teams.

Key responsibilities include organizing collaborative exhibitions and educational programming, expanding SFMOMA’s collection with African diasporic art, supporting MoAD’s exhibitions, and fostering community connections. The curator will also engage in research, acquisitions, writing for publications and wall texts, and serve as a public spokesperson for the joint initiative.

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s in African Diaspora Studies, Art History, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ curatorial experience
  • Strong knowledge of African diasporic art and artists
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work across institutions and teams with a collaborative mindset
