Assistant Curator (Registrar & Logistics)
Assistant Curator (Registrar & Logistics) at the Liverpool Biennial
Organisation: Liverpool Biennial
Location: Liverpool, United Kingdom
Salary: £27,837–£29,108
Contract: Full-time, fixed term until 31 October 2027
Expected start: January 2027, subject to notice periods
Application deadline: Sunday 8 November 2026, 11:59 p.m.
Liverpool Biennial is seeking an Assistant Curator (Registrar & Logistics) to support the delivery of its 14th edition, taking place across Liverpool from 5 June to 12 September 2027. Co-curated by Aimee Harrison and Lucía Sanromán, the exhibition will bring together work by 25 artists in venues and public spaces across the city. Its programme will be informed by experiences and perspectives of childhood and youth in Liverpool and internationally.
Working within the Programme Team and reporting to the Programme Manager, the Assistant Curator will take particular responsibility for artwork registration, transport, insurance and care. They will also help coordinate the Biennial’s publication and provide wider programme and administrative support.
Artwork registration, logistics and care
The postholder will coordinate loans and serve as a point of contact for artists, lenders, galleries and venues. They will maintain accurate records of artworks, including their locations, dimensions, values, condition and installation requirements, and lead on condition checking.
Working with the Programme and Production teams, venue partners and shipping agents, they will coordinate national and international shipments, packing requirements, customs documentation and insurance information. They will support installation and deinstallation, help resolve artwork-care issues, and act as the main liaison for a selection of artists.
Publications and programme support
The Assistant Curator will work with the Co-Curators on the Liverpool Biennial 2027 publication, coordinating schedules, contributors, image and text permissions, editing, production and associated budgets. They will also support the Learning team with the Children’s Guide.
Other duties include arranging artist travel and accommodation, tracking programme expenditure, processing invoices and purchase orders, maintaining records, and helping prepare artist and project information for public communications. The role includes supervising interns and work placements where required.
The position involves occasional evening and weekend work, with time off in lieu agreed in advance. Because of the hands-on nature of the role, Liverpool Biennial expects the successful candidate to be based in the North West or willing to relocate and to work in Liverpool every day from January 2027. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is unavailable.
Applicants should consult the Assistant Curator (Registrar & Logistics) Job Information Pack on Liverpool Biennial’s vacancy page for the full requirements and application instructions.
