The Assistant Director will have strategic responsibility for developing and delivering a world-class public programme and learning & engagement offer for the London Museum. This role will focus on building and maintaining long-term, equitable relationships with Londoners and the wider public. The Assistant Director will also lead strategic partnerships, oversee community-driven programmes, and shape the museum’s educational offerings, with a focus on collaboration across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a strategic plan for engaging Londoners with the museum, including long-term partnerships and community involvement.
- Public Engagement and Learning: Oversee and shape the museum’s public engagement and learning programmes across Smithfield and Docklands campuses.
- Partnerships and Collaboration: Work with the Director of Content and other departments to coordinate efforts and establish partnerships with communities, educators, and the creative industries.
- Leadership: Provide support and leadership to the Content Group, managing teams across various areas including learning, community partnerships, and programme delivery.
- Fundraising and Advocacy: Support fundraising efforts, lead fundraising pitches, and act as a spokesperson when needed.
- Innovation: Drive innovation in programming, including digital initiatives, and support the museum’s digital innovation team.
- Project Management: Lead projects like the Young Londoners Archive and manage access issues across the museum.
Line Management:
- Oversee a team, including the Senior Learning Manager, Head of Creative Programme, Regional Museum Development Manager, Head of Community Partnerships, and Head of Content Delivery.
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide coaching, development, and support.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Education/Experience: Qualification or significant experience in museum studies, informal learning, or major programme delivery.
- Experience: Significant experience in leading innovation and high-profile public programmes within heritage or the creative industries.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex projects and motivate teams, with a strong focus on partnerships with external organizations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in leading change and motivating staff within complex organizations.
- Ability to represent and advocate for the museum with internal and external stakeholders.
