
Assistant Performance Coordinator, Performance and Live Programs
Description
The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for two Assistant Performance Coordinators, Performance and Live Programs, for a two-year period starting September 27, 2021 with a potential opportunity for extension. The Assistant Performance Coordinators will support the coordination of various activities related to the presentation of performance in MoMA’s exhibition program, which includes a new space dedicated to live and experimental programming in the heart of the Museum’s collection galleries, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio, which first opened to the public in the fall of 2019. Exhibitions in the inaugural year of The Studio included work by David Tudor and Composers Inside Electronics Adam Linder and Shahryar Nashat, and upcoming programs will include Nora Turato and other programs. Additional projects may include work by Adam Pendleton and a focus on digital programming.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Supporting the Assistant Director/Producer and the Manager, Performance and Live Programs, works in tandem with other members of the performance exhibition team, including project-specific Coordinators and Production Assistants, Curators, Curatorial Assistants, Visitor Engagement staff, Security staff, Exhibition Design staff, and other departments.
• Assists with the implementation of performance schedules, acting as the first point of contact for artists and performers onsite.
• Coordinates with various third parties such as costume supervisors an documentation crew.
• Organizes and maintains green room supplies.
• Performs regular gallery checks as needed.
• Trouble-shoots questions from performers.
• Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, drafting notes, researching projects, maintaining and creating project files, general office organization, and budget tracking.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and experience in a theater or museum setting, exhibition planning, live performance, or similar highly desirable.
• Organized, articulate, and professional
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, and other standard office procedures and equipment
• Strong attention to detail: visual and written accuracy and precision required
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Must work effectively both independently and as part of a larger team in a fast-paced environment. Skilled at prioritizing and multitasking, in order to follow through with a variety of projects that require immediate attention as well as long term care.
• Ability to maintain composure in a sometimes stressful environment is a must.
• High level of diplomacy, judgment, and accountability
• Strong knowledge of a broad range of contemporary arts, particularly performance
• Candidates must be flexible with the hours and be able to work nights and weekends as the performances may require.
