Shubbak is seeking an Assistant Producer for a three-month paid traineeship offered through Good Chance’s Stage Door 11 programme. This professional development opportunity is specifically for people from refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds with lived experience of forced displacement.
The successful candidate will support Shubbak’s artistic programme and participation work in preparation for its 2027 festival. Shubbak supports and celebrates Arab and SWANA (South West Asian and North African) artists through commissions, participatory projects, national touring and its biennial multi-artform festival.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Producer will liaise with national and international artists, venues and partners, and help manage logistics for commissions, events and residencies. They will contribute to production plans and coordinate arrangements for workshops, rehearsals, touring and performances.
The role also includes community outreach, audience development and support for marketing campaigns. The trainee will help distribute publicity online and offline, coordinate cross-promotion with partner organisations, and collect audience, participant and artist information for monitoring and evaluation.
Eligibility and experience
Applicants must have sought asylum or refuge in the UK and currently have the right to work in the UK, including asylum seekers who are permitted to work.
Shubbak seeks someone with a foundation of producing experience who wants to develop their skills within a supportive professional environment. Relevant experience may come from arts and culture, community engagement, event management or similar fields.
Candidates should bring good project management and communication skills, experience working with people from different backgrounds, and an understanding of diversity, access and safeguarding in community or educational settings. An interest in Arab/SWANA arts and participatory projects is required. Arabic or another SWANA language is desirable but not essential.
Training and support
The trainee will join a cohort of 11 creatives across the UK, with access to networking, skills development sessions and masterclasses delivered by Good Chance. Support includes one-to-one wellbeing sessions, role-related training, a learning plan and three mentoring sessions with a Shubbak team member towards the end of the placement.
Subject to funding, the appointment may extend until the end of June 2027. If extended, working days would increase to five per week, depending on availability, during the festival period of 10 May–6 June 2027. Flexible arrangements around academic commitments can be discussed.
Interviews are planned for the week beginning 7 December 2026.
