The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at The Cooper Union seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art History, specializing in the arts and visual cultures of Africa and its global connections, Latin America, and/or Indigenous Americas (16th–20th centuries).
The appointed faculty member will teach in the core History and Theory of Art (HTA) curriculum and offer electives in their area of specialization. Responsibilities include teaching, research, publishing, and service on faculty and college committees. The role provides an opportunity to help shape the HTA core curriculum within an institution dedicated to Art, Architecture, and Engineering.
Teaching Load
- 3/3 teaching schedule
- Includes two core courses and one elective per semester
- Nine credits of course release within the first six semesters
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Art History completed by September 1, 2026
- Demonstrated record of scholarship and plans for future research
- Evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence
