Role Overview:
The Assistant Registrar ensures efficient management of art transportation, documentation, and exhibition coordination, maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external partners in the visual arts sector.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with fine art shippers for transport and shipping; obtain competitive quotes.
- Prepare all necessary shipping documents.
- Understand customs procedures, including import taxes and required paperwork.
- Keep the gallery database and inventory updated with artwork locations, conditions, and details.
- Collaborate with conservators and framers.
- Work closely with the technical team for seamless gallery operations during exhibition changes and client viewings.
- Support Registrars with art fairs, exhibitions, loans, and consignments; manage related paperwork and schedules.
- Maintain effective communication with shippers, art handlers, suppliers, storage handlers, insurers, and customs officers.
Person Specification
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a museum, gallery, or with a fine art shipper.
- Strong project coordination and scheduling skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for building relationships with team members and external contacts.
- Knowledgeable about different art mediums and collection care.
