
Assistant to Chief Curator
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Working independently, under the guidance of the Deputy Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator, the Assistant to Chief Curator will take an active role in supporting the day-to-day directives of their supervisors including calendar management, PowerPoint creation, and managing correspondence as well working across all departments on various projects.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years Executive Assistant experience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail with ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment a must.
- Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment and initiative.
- Foreign language skills a plus, especially in Spanish, French, Mandarin, or Arabic.
- Some working knowledge of modern and contemporary art.
- General interest in global current events, especially in the cultural sphere.
- Experience or ability to handle confidential information and material professionally.
- Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage and maintain the Chief Curator’s calendar and serve as the central coordinator for meetings, appointments and events.
- Work in tandem with other departments to schedule meetings, and gather or create meeting agendas.
- Prepare the Chief Curator in advance of meetings both internally and externally.
- Screen incoming emails and flag urgent matters to the Chief Curator’s attention.
- Manage the Chief Curator’s travel arrangements for flights, hotels and cars, including visas, custom clearances, and COVID policies/ testing.
- Provide background information for anyone that Chief Curator is meeting.
- Inform the Chief Curator of events on the Guggenheim Global Calendar.
- Work in tandem with team of Guggenheim coordinators and assistants to facilitate necessary communication around major and recurring events.
- Organize and update Chief Curator’s digital contacts.
- Maintain confidential files for Chief Curator’s access.
- Work with curatorial team to compile information for board meeting presentations
- Organize, distribute and create PowerPoint materials on curatorial matters to Board of Trustees and related committees.
- Create PowerPoint presentations as needed for Chief Curator’s various meetings
- Draft general correspondence for the Chief Curator
- Manage and submit Chief Curator’s expenses on a monthly basis
- Check Chief Curator’s mail and packages and respond with correspondence as needed
- Work with IT department for any technical troubleshooting
- Maintain up-keep of Chief Curator’s office
WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
- Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays on occasion.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 Hours per Week, Schedule TBD
POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Non-Exempt, This position will become a position covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.
