Overview
CIBC is seeking an Associate Curator to support the planning and execution of the C2 Art Program, an annual national art award for Canadian emerging artists, as well as assist in managing the CIBC Fine Art Collection. This role involves curatorial, administrative, and logistical tasks to promote art stewardship and engagement across CIBC’s programs and collections.
Key Responsibilities
C2 Art Program:
- Lead the coordination of the C2 Art Program, including managing schedules and activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the call for submissions, tracking, and judging process in alignment with program rules.
- Collaborate with the Communications team on program-related messaging.
- Organize the exhibition opening reception, including guest list management and event logistics.
- Work with winning artists during project development and coordinate exhibition logistics (e.g., framing, shipping, installations).
- Monitor expenses and process invoices related to the program.
Collection Management:
- Oversee care and conservation of artworks, including inventory, cataloging, appraisals, and data entry.
- Coordinate art logistics, including shipping, installation, and condition reporting.
- Maintain and update the Fine Art Collection database, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management and vendors for art care and movement.
General Curatorial Support:
- Assist with acquisitions, donations, and exhibitions.
- Develop presentations and proposals for art projects.
- Provide curatorial and operational support for projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fine art, art history, collections management, or a related field.
- Experience with arts programming, exhibitions, and collection management in galleries or museums.
- Familiarity with historical and contemporary Canadian art.
- Excellent attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in data entry, cataloging, and industry-standard tools and technology.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work model (1–3 days on-site weekly, remote on other days).
- May require evening or weekend work for art installations.
- Travel to other locations or off-site storage facilities as needed.
