Contract: Full-time, fixed-term (4 years)
Salary: $66,000 – $105,000 per year
The University of Pennsylvania Museum is seeking an Associate Curator for the Mediterranean Section. This four-year term position involves curatorial, research, and collections management responsibilities, with a particular focus on the museum’s numismatics collection.
The role combines academic research, exhibition development, teaching support, and collection stewardship within a university museum context.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee protection, conservation and accessibility of the Mediterranean collections
- Conduct research and publish peer-reviewed work (approx. one publication every two years)
- Support teaching and student engagement through object-based learning
- Supervise research associates, interns and students
- Maintain and improve collection records (KE EMu database)
- Plan and deliver exhibitions and gallery updates
- Contribute to museum publications (Expedition Magazine, Penn Museum Voices)
- Lead grant writing and fundraising efforts
- Handle research and access requests related to the collection
Profile Requirements
- MA/MS with 2–3 years of experience (PhD strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Classical World material culture
- Experience in archaeological fieldwork and/or numismatics
- Experience with exhibitions and/or grant writing preferred
- Familiarity with collections management systems
- Strong organisational, supervisory and collaborative skills
