Contract: Full-time, fixed-term (4 years)
Salary: $66,000 – $105,000 per year

The University of Pennsylvania Museum is seeking an Associate Curator for the Mediterranean Section. This four-year term position involves curatorial, research, and collections management responsibilities, with a particular focus on the museum’s numismatics collection.

The role combines academic research, exhibition development, teaching support, and collection stewardship within a university museum context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee protection, conservation and accessibility of the Mediterranean collections
  • Conduct research and publish peer-reviewed work (approx. one publication every two years)
  • Support teaching and student engagement through object-based learning
  • Supervise research associates, interns and students
  • Maintain and improve collection records (KE EMu database)
  • Plan and deliver exhibitions and gallery updates
  • Contribute to museum publications (Expedition Magazine, Penn Museum Voices)
  • Lead grant writing and fundraising efforts
  • Handle research and access requests related to the collection

Profile Requirements

  • MA/MS with 2–3 years of experience (PhD strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Classical World material culture
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork and/or numismatics
  • Experience with exhibitions and/or grant writing preferred
  • Familiarity with collections management systems
  • Strong organisational, supervisory and collaborative skills
