Associate Curator of Chinese & Korean Art – LACMA


Reporting to the Curator & Department Head of Chinese & Korean Art, the Associate Curator of Korean Art is responsible for the collections management aspect, involving caring for and preservation of the Museum’s collection of Korean Art. Additionally, the Associate Curator is responsible for the research and dissemination, via lectures and publications, of information about the collection, as well as the organization of exhibitions and acquisition of art for the collection.

Some duties include: generates, plans and implement special exhibitions; fundraises for acquisitions and exhibitions; maintains relationships with artists, donors and trustees; responds to public and scholarly inquiries; provides docent training; exhibits, interprets, catalogues and studies the permanent collection; helps to shape and focus the collection through acquisitions by gifts and purchases; works closely with Conservation and Collections Management to ensure the preservation of the collection; interprets Korean Art for the public and works closely Education and the Docent Council to develop programs; contributes to the intellectual life of the museum and the community through a strong record of critical and scholarly publications.

The qualified candidate will have a Ph.D. in Art History with a specialization in Korean Art and three to five years of experience with museum curatorial work, collections management or teaching at the college level. Fluency in Korean and experience translating is required. A record of publications is strongly preferred.
