
Associate Curator of Education
The Walker Art Center seeks a dynamic and experienced full-time Associate Curator of Education and Interpretation. This individual will work collaboratively across departments to develop a holistic education schema for the Walker campus and exhibitions, this includes identifying ways in which the Walker is a resource for cross-disciplinary learning and interpretation.
The successful candidate will be able to maintain forward-thinking and effective management of education and interpretation for K–12, college, and adult audiences through oversight of the Walker’s education and interactive gallery experiences, Guide Program, hands-on learning, and access initiatives. The role is responsible for developing and delivering interpretive materials, curricula programs, talks and discussions, tours and workshops, events, and residency programs, in collaboration with all departments. The position also represents the Walker with a number of key constituents including volunteers, advisory groups, academic and community partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3 years related experience in informal or formal learning environments where coordination and program delivery was a key component of work.
- Graduate degree in art, art history, art education, or arts administration preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary art.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to organize budgets, staff and project resources and in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in developing interpretive and educational resources, including writing for a variety of audiences, and directing research toward a dynamic range of projects.
- Excellent public speaking skills including the ability to deliver presentations and tours, and communicate with a range of audiences.
- Excellent word processing skills; ability to use Microsoft Excel for the development and implementation of timelines and budgets; experience using CRM systems a plus.
- Experience in a range of project and audience evaluation techniques
- Experience working with volunteers desirable.
- Understanding and continued interest in the ways digital technology are deployed for education and interpretation projects desirable.
