The Toledo Museum of Art seeks an Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art to lead the stewardship, expansion, and interpretation of its collection in this field. Reporting to the Director of Curatorial Affairs, this role will shape TMA’s modern and contemporary art program, ensuring it reflects TMA’s commitment to diverse perspectives and inclusive storytelling.
Responsibilities:
- Curatorial Program: Guide the modern and contemporary art program with curatorial expertise, supporting acquisitions, exhibitions, and innovative gallery installations.
- Exhibition Development: Conceptualize and execute exhibitions, focusing on diverse artistic practices and themes, and contribute to the reinstallation of TMA’s collection in 2027.
- Collection Development: Identify and acquire significant works, ensuring alignment with TMA’s mission and strategic goals.
- Research and Scholarship: Conduct in-depth research, write scholarly publications, and catalog the modern and contemporary art collection.
- Collaborations and Partnerships: Build relationships with artists, collectors, galleries, and cultural institutions for acquisitions, collaborations, and loans.
- Public Engagement: Develop and present educational programs, lectures, and public events, fostering accessibility and inclusivity.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Art History (Ph.D. preferred) with a specialization in modern and contemporary art.
- Minimum 3-5 years of curatorial and collections experience, with a museum background.
- Strong research, analytical, and public-speaking skills.
- Proficiency in visitor engagement, problem-solving, and adaptability for flexible scheduling.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $59,500–$70,100 annually.
