Associate Director of Education

Reporting to the Director of Education + Curator of Kidspace, the Associate Director of Education will be a strategic and collaborative leader who will serve as a confident and passionate advocate for the value of educational programming at the Museum and online, and further the goals of the museum’s education program as a leader in the field.  They will articulate a coherent vision with a clear set of priorities, framing the discussion around the development of the Museum’s academic programming agenda with input and support from senior management, staff, and constituents. The Associate Director’s primary responsibilities focus on the direction of our dynamic 20-year partnership with 10 local elementary and 9 high schools. Additional duties include the development of academic on-line resources, programs, and pedagogies; oversight of program evaluation; grant writing and budgeting; programming initiatives with area higher education, cultural organizations, and social service networks; training and supervision of Gallery Teachers team; and design of  training materials and workshops for staff, and curricula materials and pedagogical approaches for all learners. The Associate Director is the head Gallery Teacher and takes a lead on instructing academic programs.

Requirements
  • Advanced Degree in Museum Education preferred
  • Minimum five years education and administrative experience required
  • Knowledge of current and emerging educational trends required
  • Demonstrated leader with at least five-years of experience managing/implementing a museum education program and articulating a distinctive educational vision
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize internal and external support for programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for art and a commitment to education and lifelong learning, intellectual inquiry and visitor engagement
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, and develop staff; prior experience working with multiple stakeholders, including Gallery Teachers, public school officials, community leaders, and museum-wide staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate excitement about programs through innovative initiatives that will retain best practice in the museum education field
  • Experience with virtual learning technologies is a plus
  • Highly personable, charismatic, and energetic; able to generate enthusiasm and have fun, motivate and direct others; mature, with good judgment and a sense of humor in order to maintain perspective and balance.
