Position Summary
The Associate Director of Learning and Engagement is responsible for designing educational and interpretive content that enhances visitor engagement. They manage a team of museum education professionals, art instructors, and docents, ensuring HoMA’s educational initiatives are high-quality, relevant, and accessible. Collaborating with other museum departments, the Associate Director supports cross-departmental projects, grant applications, and strategic vision execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Hire, manage, and mentor the Learning and Engagement team to develop tours, interpretive resources, and community programs.
- Program Development: Oversee creation and implementation of interpretive and education programs aligned with institutional goals.
- Grant Support: Collaborate on grant applications and reports to secure funding for educational initiatives.
- Diversity & Inclusion: Promote inclusivity, equity, and belonging across all interactions and institutional practices.
- Community Engagement: Build partnerships with local educational institutions and community organizations.
- Interpretation Strategy: Develop interpretive methods to enrich visitor experiences, including digital and participatory resources.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field. At least five years of experience in museum education, with three years of team management.
- Desired: Advanced degree in related field. Familiarity with Hawaii Department of Education (HiDOE) curriculum.
- Skills: Project management, budget oversight, educational content development, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
