Astrup Fearnley Museet seeks curator

The Astrup Fearnley Museet is one of Scandinavia’s most significant centres for contemporary art. The museum is home to the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection and presents changing exhibitions featuring the collection as well as commissions of new work by artists from around the world. We are currently seeking a curator who will play a central role in the museum’s exhibition programme, publications, and scholarly research activities. The position reports to the museum’s director.

Responsibilities:

– Curate exhibitions, including research and conceptualisation, formulating and tracking budget, and managing exhibition design and installation

– Initiate and produce related public programming, such as artist talks, panel discussions, and lectures

– Participate in the planning and organisation of other exhibitions and projects in the museum’s programme

– Prepare funding applications and reports

– Contribute to the further development of the Astrup Fearnley Collection by researching and advising on new acquisitions

– Write texts for exhibitions, catalogues, and other publications; work closely with colleagues and external partners throughout the editing, design, and publication processes

– Work closely with the museum’s other departments, especially collection management, communications, and education

– Develop relationships with artists, colleagues, and other key figures in the field of contemporary art, both nationally and internationally

– Represent the museum in relevant professional networks by participating in external discussion panels, symposia, and other forums

– Contribute to the museum’s overall development

Qualifications and skills:

– MA degree in art history or other subject relevant to the position

– Minimum of two years’ experience as curator or equivalent role in an art institution

– An excellent knowledge of Norwegian and international contemporary art and deep familiarity with current theoretical discourses within the field

– A broad international network

– Excellent written and oral presentation skills in English and the ability to adapt communication style as appropriate

– Experience preparing funding applications and reports

– Independent, resourceful, and flexible

– A positive and collaborative team player with a proactive approach to relationship building
