Overview
UNESCO, collaborating with IRDR, CRIHAP, ICHCAP, and IRCI, invites teams and individuals to submit case studies from Asia and the Pacific. These studies should showcase the roles and risks of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the context of climate change. Additionally, they should highlight strategies for safeguarding ICH against climate impacts.
Submission Details
Case studies must be evidence-based and address one or more of the following questions:
- How does ICH help in identifying, assessing, and monitoring climate change?
- What role does ICH play in enhancing community adaptation and resilience to climate change?
- How does ICH contribute to mitigating carbon emissions and disaster risk?
- What are the impacts and risks of climate change on ICH practice, transmission, safeguarding, and viability in the long term?
- What adaptations are necessary for ICH to cope with climate change?
- What are effective local and regional strategies for safeguarding ICH in the face of climate change?
Opportunities for Participants
Authors of selected case studies may have opportunities to participate in publications and international conferences.
Context
This call aligns with UNESCO’s commitment to heritage safeguarding and sustainable development, as outlined in the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. It also supports the Final Declaration of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT 2022). This declaration recognizes the vital role of culture in sustainable development, resilience, social inclusion, environmental protection, and sustainable, inclusive growth.
