The 2022 Annual Kris Waldman Curator-In-Residence Exhibit

The Kris Waldman Curator-In-Residence Exhibit is named in honor of HCA’s founding co-director, who shares a great passion for art that fosters dialogue around diversity and inclusivity, particularly of underrepresented communities.

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) is calling curators to apply for our annual Curator-In-Residence program. Through a competitive proposal process, one individual or team will be chosen each year to curate a group art show centered on diversity and inclusion. The curator will also develop a public presentation or workshop with an educational component.

  • There is no submission fee to submit a proposal
  • Applicants must be residents of New England.
  • A $1,000 stipend will be awarded to the curator to realize their proposed exhibition.
  • Those interested in applying for this program must demonstrate an awareness of the opportunities and challenges of curating a gallery exhibition for the general public. The curator will work closely with HCA’s Director of Visual Arts in realizing this exhibition.
  • Proposals must outline a theme centered on diversity and inclusion.
  • Up to 39 pieces of art of the Curator’s choosing by 2 or more artists may be submitted.
    • For each artwork, you will submit a separate “Application.”
    • If the artwork isn’t created yet, please provide an example of the artists’ work.
  • All 2D media may be entered, including photos, fiber art, and digital art. Maximum width for wall hung work is recommended at 30 inches, but not mandatory. No giclee prints, copies, or electronic reproductions will be accepted.
  • All 2D work must be wired for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers or sandwich frames. Neutral mats preferred.
  • 3D work may be entered if it can be hung on the wall and does not protrude more than 10 inches. (Please submit 2 – 3 photos of each sculpture so that all sides may be viewed by the juror).
    • For ceramics we will accommodate with pedestals and shelving. Keep in mind this is a high traffic area.
  • When submiting a proposal simply use the promotional code: CURATOR. Click here if you need instructions on how to enter a promo code.
