Print Center New York

Application Window: February 10 – April 6, 2025
Exhibition Opportunities Starting: 2028

Description

In celebration of Print Center New York’s 25-year history of collaborating with guest curators, the center is opening its first-ever curatorial open call. This call invites emerging and early-career curators to submit letters of interest for exhibition opportunities. The goal is to identify innovative curatorial voices and research areas that push the field of printmaking forward while accelerating professional opportunities for curators working in print exhibition and scholarship.

Program Features:

Print Center New York works collaboratively with curators to fully realize their projects. The institution provides support through a working group of subject-area experts who assist in developing the project at key intervals. Curators also receive guidance on conceptualization, exhibition writing, public engagement, and publication development. The center handles project management, logistics, budget administration, exhibition production, outreach, and publicity.

Exhibitions are displayed in the Jordan Schnitzer Gallery, located in Chelsea, and are typically on view for 12 weeks, accompanied by public programming and a modest publication. Curators have access to a wide range of lenders, including museums and institutional collections.

Eligibility

Emerging and early-career curators from anywhere in the United States are eligible, defined as having less than 15 years of professional arts experience. Curators must be able to attend key dates such as exhibition installation, opening, and select programming. Letters of interest are also welcome from artists, as long as the project does not include their own work.

Financial Support

Guest curators receive an unrestricted curatorial fee, starting at $5,000, with the amount scaling upward depending on the project’s scope and needs. An additional travel budget is available for curatorial research and exhibition-related travel. Print Center New York covers exhibition, publication, and programming costs.
