Conference Theme: Artist Social Networks – Friends, Collaborators, Contract Owners
Artists rarely work in isolation. They often find themselves in complex social networks. These networks include contract owners, patrons, superiors, and personal connections like friends, relatives, and collaborators.
Research Focus
The conference explores how to reconstruct an artist’s social network. Ego documents, diaries, and correspondence are primary sources. In their absence, registry records for significant life events like weddings or child baptisms offer insights. Participation in these events reveals close social connections.
Cultural-Historical Context
The conference delves into the artist’s role in various communities – urban, rural, professional, or interest groups like guilds and societies. Discussions will cover client networks, relationships between artists and other entities, and the social network formation process from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The topic is open to art historians, archivists, historians, and related fields. Contributions should base on archival sources.
Participation and Submissions
Interested participants should send an abstract (max 300 characters) and a brief bio. Presentations will last 20 minutes, with anticipated publication. Working languages: Czech and English.
