Refusal can be considered as a conscious withdrawal from existing systems that have proven toxic to societies as well as our environment, as a meaningful practice to empower marginalised groups and individuals, or as a feminist strategy of emancipation that looks back on a long tradition and signals, ‘enough is enough!’.
With its annual programme The Resistance of Nothingness, the Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft is devoting itself to this form of feminist refusal as a withdrawal from unjust patriarchal and neoliberal systems, a central theme of political philosophy.
In this context, it is providing space, time and resources for exhibition projects and artistic interventions that take up new narratives for our complex contemporary present, thoughts and conversations.
The Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft was founded in 1946 is as a forum for contemporary art in Tyrol. In addition to representing the interests of visual artists, the Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft curates, organises and produces exhibition projects at the Kunstpavillon and Neue Galerie Innsbruck. The exhibition programme, which is largely based on an open, international call for submissions, encompasses all forms of contemporary art.
The budget per submitted project amounts to a maximum of 3500 EUR for the Kunstpavillon and 2500 EUR for the Neue Galerie Innsbruck. This includes production costs incurred for the creation of new artistic works, display design and exhibition architecture, as well as the reconstruction of the space, and the costs for material, travel, accommodation and transports. In addition to the production budget, the Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft will also cover artists’ fees. A maximum sum of 2000 EUR (incl. VAT) is available for this.
