The Center for Book Arts is seeking a detail-oriented Catalog Project Assistant to support a major catalog improvement project. The role focuses on enhancing the clarity, structure, and discoverability of catalog records, aligning subject assignments and object-type classifications with current research needs and the organization’s educational mission. This is a grant-funded, part-time position supported by The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation and Pine Tree Foundation of New York.
Employment Details
- Job Type: Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Union
- Hours: 16 hours/week (576 hours max)
- Duration: May 2026 – January 2027
- Pay: $25/hour
- Reports to: Librarian
Responsibilities
- Audit existing catalog records in CollectiveAccess
- Redefine and consistently apply subject headings (intellectual and physical)
- Clarify and configure object-type classifications
- Oversee online catalog implementation
- Support final documentation of a metadata manual
- Conduct other catalog-related research and administrative tasks
Qualifications
- Required: Experience with CollectiveAccess, cataloging or database management in libraries, archives, or museums, familiarity with subject headings and metadata standards, MLIS (completed or in progress)
- Preferred: Strong attention to detail, excellent written documentation skills, ability to work independently, experience handling rare books or works on paper, interest in book arts, printmaking, history of the book, or artists’ books
