The Museum of Modern Art is seeking a Cataloguer to work with its Film Department, Media Conservation team and Digital Content team. The role focuses on creating and maintaining accurate records for film collections and digital media assets in the museum’s collection management system.
Responsibilities
The Cataloguer will create, edit and update records for digital collection material and new acquisitions, review existing files for missing information, and improve the accuracy of collection data. Working with colleagues in Media Conservation and Digital Content, they will also prepare metadata used to identify titles for MoMA’s streaming platform.
The postholder will maintain the Film Department’s cataloguing policies and procedures in The Museum System (TMS) and uphold standards for recording information about moving-image works.
Candidate profile
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience cataloguing film or media collections, or equivalent experience. They should have a general knowledge of film history and understand relational databases, metadata standards, digital media assets and the fundamentals of digital preservation.
MoMA also seeks familiarity with digital image, audio, video and text formats; experience across Mac, Windows and Unix/Linux environments; and the ability to work with command-line tools such as MediaInfo and ExifTool. Experience with TMS or another database used for moving-image collections is relevant. Accurate data entry, organisation and the ability to work collaboratively across several projects are essential.
The role reports to the Senior Film Collections Manager and Media Conservator and requires on-site work five days a week. It is a union position represented by Local 2110, UAW, AFL-CIO.
