About the Role

The Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) in Bengaluru is seeking Cataloguers to digitise and manage a collection of over 6,000 photography negatives. This position involves metadata recording, cataloguing, and enriching artwork descriptions to make the collection more accessible for research and public engagement. The selected candidates will contribute to building MAP’s photography archive to museum standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and catalogue negatives, prints, and paintings from the collection.
  • Record standard metadata such as date, origin, materials, and techniques.
  • Write rich descriptions and maintain a bibliography of references.
  • Assign accession numbers and prepare inventories.
  • Fact-check and enhance recorded data.
  • Edit catalogue entries for clarity, tone, and structure.
  • Collaborate with external experts as needed.
  • Support the organisation through participation in assigned activities.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art history, photography, history, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience cataloguing or archiving in large collections.
  • Expertise in working with photography negatives and metadata recording.
  • Familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, DSpace, TMS or Spectrum CMS.
  • Proven research and writing experience in South Asian photography.
  • Excellent organisation and documentation skills.
