Introduction
Hamburg led the way in 1981 by launching the Art in Public Space program, moving away from the traditional Art in Architecture. This initiative opened the urban landscape to independent visual arts projects, marking a significant move towards democratically shaped urban culture. The program’s innovative approach has been groundbreaking, inspiring the City Curator project in 2014, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Media Hamburg.
