Overview of the Fellowship
VAE Raleigh, a nonprofit cultural arts organization, is excited to announce the Collaborative Curatorial Fellowship. This unique program offers a $5,000 stipend, paid bi-weekly, and an additional $5,000 for project budgets. Over six months, whether in Raleigh, NC or remotely, participants will have the chance to execute a community-based artistic project.

Since its founding in 1980, VAE Raleigh has committed to fostering a vibrant and equitable creative community in Raleigh, North Carolina. Annually, VAE engages the community through exhibitions, educational opportunities, public events, and provides substantial funding for artists.
The Team and Collaboration
Fellows will collaborate closely with VAE’s staff and Board of Directors, benefiting from an adaptable team structure that supports the fellow’s project goals. This program invites not only artists but also arts administrators and community organizers to propose innovative and socially-engaged exhibition themes.
Fellowship Details
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that could include multiple types of supporting visual materials. VAE values community-focused projects that resonate with the community’s identity and do not exploit it. The fellowship demands strong independent work skills, excellent time management, and a capability to engage deeply with community themes.
Application Process and Fellowship Requirements
The next application cycle will be announced in 2024. The fellowship is open exclusively to North Carolina residents, with collaborative groups requiring at least 50% in-state residency. Fellows are expected to commit at least 10 hours per week to the fellowship, with flexibility in scheduling but required participation in regular organizational meetings.
