The Collection Registrar will manage and coordinate registrarial procedures, ensuring the care, security, and accessibility of Tate’s collection. The role involves overseeing acquisitions, loans, and displays while adhering to national and international museum standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collections Care:
- Safeguard artworks by ensuring compliance with Tate’s policies and international standards.
- Oversee import/export, customs, government indemnity, and insurance arrangements.
- Loans and Displays:
- Coordinate internal and external loans, acquisitions, and displays, ensuring the safe movement and handling of artworks.
- Liaise with departments such as Art Handling, Conservation, and Photography.
- Documentation and Auditing:
- Maintain and update records in the collection management system.
- Conduct inventories and audits, ensuring compliance with data protection laws.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage Assistant Collection Registrars and supervise casual staff as needed.
- Train colleagues on registrarial policies and procedures.
- Policy Development:
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of new registrarial policies and procedures.
- Public and Research Services:
- Assist visitors and researchers in the Prints and Drawings Room.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Significant experience in a registrar role at a major museum or gallery.
- Expertise in art handling, transportation, and environmental requirements.
- Familiarity with government indemnity, customs, and insurance processes.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage complex tasks under pressure.
- Proven experience with collection management databases and auditing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
