The Goldsmiths’ Company is a membership organisation that has contributed to national life for nearly 700 years. We train and support jewellers and silversmiths, protect consumers by testing and hallmarking precious metals, and work with charitable, educational and cultural partners to help improve people’s lives.
The Goldsmiths’ Company’s Collection lies at the heart of who we are. Of world class importance, it includes both historic and contemporary works of art—stunning gold and silver plate, jewellery and art medals. A working Collection, we use it to advertise excellence and innovation within the extraordinary, living tradition of silversmithing which the Company continues to regulate, support and promote into the 21st Century. We research it, teach with it, display it, lend it and talk about it as part of our core identity—as something which tells very human stories about people and their connections with the trade and with the Company.
The Collections Assistant will support the Curator and her team in administering a busy office and its diary, including records and filing; processing payments; loan administration and securing copyright agreements; administering Committees and liaising with makers and members of the Company.
It is an exciting time for our small team as we work on two major projects. First, we are introducing our new Collections Management system as a first step towards developing online catalogues and exhibitions on our website, making our treasures fully discoverable to a global audience. Second, we are in partnership with the Museum of London as they develop their new site at Smithfield, working on the Goldsmiths’ Gallery and on displays of contemporary silver and living skills. We are looking for the right person to join us: someone who is highly- organised, flexible, meticulous and responsible in working to the highest standards. We welcome people who share our values of excellence, integrity, creativity, community and inclusion. The team is based at Goldsmiths’ Hall, but is currently working between the Hall and home with a view to increasing presence in the workplace as soon as Government guidelines allow.
We are offering a competitive salary plus benefits package. If you believe that you have the required skill set and experience to fulfil the relevant role at the Goldsmiths’ Company, email us at jobs@thegoldsmiths.co.uk with your CV and a covering letter (no more than a page) detailing how you meet the requirements of the role.
The closing date for applications is Friday 23 April 2021 If you are successful in being shortlisted, we will be in touch shortly after the closing date.
Virtual interviews via Zoom will be held on Tuesday 4 May 2021.
