Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-exempt (35 hours per week)

Position Overview
The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Brind Center seeks a Collections Assistant and Department Manager to support the Director and manage daily operations within the department. This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in African and African American Art, who can perform both administrative and collections management tasks, including coordinating department finances, managing collections processing, supporting curatorial activities, and facilitating exhibitions and gallery maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee office operations, process department budgets, and order supplies.
  • Assist with processing collections, coordinating with conservators, and managing object locations.
  • Support curatorial staff with exhibitions, condition reporting, conservation, and loans.
  • Coordinate the Brind Center Committee meetings, including preparing agendas and taking minutes.
  • Manage digital records, handle inquiries, and support public programming.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience; detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with project coordination, office administration, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with collections management systems like TMS is advantageous.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for Brind Center events.
  • Proficiency in languages relevant to African and African Diasporic communities is a plus.
