Position Title: Collections Curator
Department: Art & Design, School Of
Term of Assignment: One-year term
Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday 8am – 5 pm; possible evening and weekend work required
Salary: Targeted salary range: $36,560-$39,300
Travel: Less than 10%
Brief Statement of Duties:
- Manage all aspects of the museum’s permanent art collection including conservation, documentation, storage, research, and acquisition of works of art. Contribute to preparing educational materials for collection items on display. Run the educational program for all age groups including research and planning for museum tours.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree
Discipline / Degree Area:
- Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies
Required Minimum Work Experience:
- One year of experience working in a gallery or museum with a permanent art collection and education program.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
- Ability to handle original works of art appropriately.
- Proven interest in museum operations and collections management.
- Highly organized and self-motivated, ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff and the public, including curators, educators, preparators, faculty, and K-12 and college students.
- Well-developed written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent time management skills.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Fine Art, Art History or Museum Studies.
- Understanding of basic conservation care of artwork.
- Knowledge of Apple Operating Systems including Databases, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software.
- Experience with education for a variety of age groups in a museum or gallery setting.
