Collections Officer – La Trobe University Art Institute

La Trobe University is seeking a dedicated Collections Officer to support access, display, and care of its extensive cultural holdings—over 10,000 objects valued at more than $25 million. The role is based at the Bundoora campus and works closely with curators, academics, and other stakeholders to enhance teaching, research, and public engagement through dynamic use of the university’s collections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage artwork display requests on campus
  • Facilitate safe access to collections for teaching and research
  • Handle, install, and care for artworks following museum best practices
  • Assist with inventory, documentation, and collection care processes
  • Advise on suitable artworks for display and contribute to planning
  • Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Candidate Profile

  • Diploma in a relevant field with experience in galleries or museums
  • Strong understanding of collection care, handling, and museum standards
  • Effective time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexibly in an academic environment
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to process improvement
