Join The Met’s Modern and Contemporary Art department in overseeing collections during a significant renovation project.

Overview

The Collections Specialist role at The Met involves coordinating collection care and assessment during a renovation project. This position requires project management skills, organizational expertise, and knowledge of collections care.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Senior Manager and collections team for collection assessments.
  • Manage project budget and track invoices.
  • Coordinate viewings and updates of stored collections.
  • Maintain collections documentation and digital records.
  • Perform basic post-production on images.
  • Coordinate with contracted staff for collection assessment and offsite move.
  • Update collection data in collection management software.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Museum Studies or Collections Management.
  • Experience working with museum collections.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in TMS and Adobe Suite preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with art handling and moving preferred.

Compensation & Location

  • Annual Salary Range: $70,000.00 – $75,000.00.
  • Employees must be located within commuting distance of the Museum.
