Join The Met’s Modern and Contemporary Art department in overseeing collections during a significant renovation project.
Overview
The Collections Specialist role at The Met involves coordinating collection care and assessment during a renovation project. This position requires project management skills, organizational expertise, and knowledge of collections care.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Senior Manager and collections team for collection assessments.
- Manage project budget and track invoices.
- Coordinate viewings and updates of stored collections.
- Maintain collections documentation and digital records.
- Perform basic post-production on images.
- Coordinate with contracted staff for collection assessment and offsite move.
- Update collection data in collection management software.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Museum Studies or Collections Management.
- Experience working with museum collections.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in TMS and Adobe Suite preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with art handling and moving preferred.
Compensation & Location
- Annual Salary Range: $70,000.00 – $75,000.00.
- Employees must be located within commuting distance of the Museum.
