The Palestinian Museum seeks a Collections Unit Coordinator to manage the registration, preservation, cataloguing, documentation, storage, and integrity of the museum’s collections both on-site and in external locations. Working closely with the Head of the Collections Unit, this role supports the museum’s mission to produce new narratives about Palestinian history, culture, and society through exhibitions, cultural and educational programmes, and creative projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Support collections-related tasks for exhibitions and museum programmes
- Coordinate processes of receiving, delivery, loaning, and retrieval of items, including transportation, packing, and documentation according to museum protocols
- Register, archive, and classify collections in the museum’s data system
- Preserve and monitor collections—owned or borrowed—in warehouses and galleries to ensure their integrity
- Assist in managing conservation labs, coordinate training, and liaise with collection owners and other museums
- Support curators in exhibition projects and public art programmes
- Research and prepare materials for exhibitions and related activities
- Draft collection texts for visual and written museum materials, including website content
- Coordinate with shipping, clearance, and insurance providers, and maintain supplier databases in collaboration with finance and administration
- Write periodic reports on collections
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Head of the Collections Unit
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Anthropology, History, Arts, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in collection registration and classification
- Experience in exhibition setup/dismantling and in shipping/transporting museum objects
- In-depth knowledge of collections management methodologies and item types
- Strong organisational and data classification skills
- Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written)
