Working closely with the founders, CEO, and senior leadership, the individual in this role leads strategy across press, editorial, digital, and public-facing communications, ensuring that the gallery’s voice is coherent, distinctive, and aligned across channels. Reporting to the founders and CEO, the Communications & Press Director oversees the Digital Content team and manages the New York-based Press Assistant, in coordination with the Senior Director in New York.
Candidate Profile
Senior communications professional with a minimum of seven years’ experience in the art world, ideally within a gallery, museum, arts institution, art publication, or specialized communications context. Bilingual in English and Spanish, with excellent writing and editing skills, strong editorial judgment, a deep understanding of contemporary art, and proven experience shaping public narratives across press, editorial, and digital contexts.
The ideal candidate should combine strategic thinking with hands-on communications experience, with the ability to develop long-lead communications strategies, guide tone and messaging across channels, and work confidently with press and cultural media.
Mexico City-based, with regular travel to New York. An existing US or international art press network is strongly preferred. BA required, preferably in art history, communications, humanities, or a related field; MA preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the gallery’s overall communications strategy, public voice, and long-term narrative across Mexico, the US, and international contexts.
- Translate the gallery’s program, history, vision, values, and artists’ work into coherent public positioning, in close coordination with the founders, CEO, and senior leadership.
- Lead press strategy across Mexico and the US, building on the gallery’s existing Mexico press relationships and strengthening media outreach in New York.
- Develop long-lead editorial opportunities around artists, exhibitions, the gallery’s program, and broader institutional narratives, in close collaboration with the Artist Liaisons and the Research & Curatorial team.
- Identify, shape, and oversee selected press opportunities and communications materials – including press releases, interview language, quotes, and key messaging.
- Apply strong editorial judgment across press, messaging, and digital content, ensuring consistency with the gallery’s voice and positioning.
- Set the strategic and editorial framework for digital content across website, newsletter, social media, video, and other formats.
- Strengthen the gallery’s public information ecosystem by ensuring that the gallery’s website, artist pages, biographies, press materials, external profiles, and search visibility are accurate, coherent, and discoverable.
- Establish clear workflows, planning rhythms, and cross-departmental communication across Mexico City and New York.
