Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Fellowship, Paper (Regular Full-Time)
Conservation Center

The Andrew W. Mellon Fellow will work on the conservation of works of art on paper, photographs, books and/or archives.  The position includes a stipend for research and travel given at the discretion of the Director of Conservation. This Fellowship is a one-year position with potential for renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Examines and treats a wide range of works of art on paper and photographs.
  • Supports preventive conservation activities, exhibitions and loans, as well as conservation outreach.
  • Collaborates with conservators, conservation scientists, collections care specialists, curators and other Museum staff.
  • Develops a research project focused on artist materials or techniques and/or new treatment methodologies in collaboration with the Center’s Research Laboratory.
  • Publishes and/or presents the research in a professional journal or conference.
  • Participates in informal lectures, symposia, workshops as well as visits and collaborates with nearby cultural institutions.
  • Couriers works of art on loan or exhibition to other museums and institutions.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from a recognized art conservation program or have equivalent work or apprenticeship experience, with a specialization in works of art on paper and/or photographs.
  • Demonstrates visual, manual, and scholarly aptitudes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
