The Course for Non-Curators: New Roles for a Changing Art Field is among the first worldwide to challenge conventional models of curatorial practice, embracing an expanded vision in which art intersects with philosophy, technology, ecology, design, education and social research to question, reinvent and move beyond the exhibition as the primary horizon of curatorial work.
The programme invites participants to explore the evolving landscape of artistic mediation and expanded forms of artistic production through experimentation, critical inquiry, and transdisciplinary exchange. The course is among the very first advanced graduate programmes of its kind, and brings together artists, curators and thinkers from across and beyond the contemporary art field, creating an environment in which different forms of knowledge, practice and inquiry can meet and contaminate each other.
Contributors include Hou Hanru, Charles Esche, Suzanne Lacy, Rirkrit Tirvanija, Miwako Tezuka, CLIMAVORE, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Marcus Schmickler, gudskul, Fabio Beltram, Daniel Godínez-Nivón, Ute Meta Bauer, Caroline Woolard, András Szántó, Federica Fragapane, and Onome Ekeh, and many others. The programme counts among its contributors philosophers Christopher Fynsk and Sven-Olov Wallenstein, as well as curator and theoretician Vesna Madžoski, all members of the European Graduate School faculty.
Through lectures, talks, seminars, workshops, collective discussions and project development, the 27 selected participants will form a virtual cohort, critically engaging with the structures, assumptions and narratives that have long shaped curatorial practice, in direct dialogue with guest professors and the School team.
The programme culminates in the production of experimental “non-exhibitions”. Three projects will be selected for realisation with partner institutions between the Fall of 2027 and Spring of 2028. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive a Certificate in Expanded Curatorial Practice.

Applicants are required to submit: Completed application form; Curriculum Vitae (max 3 pages); Statement of Interest (max 1000 words) outlining their motivations for joining the programme; Portfolio or documentation of relevant projects (optional). Applications should be submitted exclusively through the online form on the website and will be reviewed in three rounds during the application period (August 23rd / September 13rd / October 4th).
