ST Paul St Gallery
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Curator to coordinate the development and delivery of the ST PAUL St Gallery’s programmes and to maintain procedures and systems to effectively manage the operation of the gallery, supported by a dedicated gallery team.
Reporting to the Associate Head of School, Research, the position is committed to supporting staff and student practice-based research and curriculum, and the development of contemporary art and design through a curated programme of exhibitions, events, symposia and publications focused both locally and internationally.
Established in 2004, ST PAUL St is the Gallery for Auckland University of Technology and sits within the School of Art & Design. AUT is vibrant, achievement-oriented and a rewarding place to work and is now ranked in the top 1% of all universities worldwide.
This position is an opportunity to cultivate a strong and unique curatorial vision through engagement with an exciting practice-based research culture in the AUT School of Art & Design, and with the wider art and design community.
Skills and experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in working in a gallery environment, including curating and programming for contemporary art and design, and the development, planning and delivery of exhibitions, symposia, and other public programmes.
- Expert knowledge in contemporary art and design is required as is the ability to work both independently and collectively.
- Broad understanding of the complexities of a professional gallery with sound knowledge of administrative processes (financial and operational) along with a high level of communication ability in developing and maintaining the collegial relationships with colleagues, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and practice in the principles of equity and diversity with particular commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and kaupapa Māori led initiatives.

Qualifications:
- Appropriate tertiary academic qualifications and professional experience in art and design field, preferably a relevant postgraduate qualification.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $89,000 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
