The Emil Schumacher Museum ( ESM ) was reopened in Hagen in August 2009 and is operated by the Emil Schumacher Foundation in cooperation with the city of Hagen. The non-profit foundation under civil law is dedicated to the life’s work of the artist Emil Schumacher ( 1912-1999 ) from Hagen and manages his estate.The museum sees itself as a place to research and present expressive painting and abstract art after 1945. With its exhibition program, it presents the painter Emil Schumacher in the context of parallel international developments in art. The collection comprises over 1000 works from all creative phases of the artist and goes to the foundation of his son, Dr. Ulrich Schumacher ( 1941-2021 ), back. For the expansion of the museum’s activities, incl.of the exhibition program taking contemporary art into account, the Emil Schumacher Foundation is looking for a motivated and committed personality as soon as possible

Salary: based on fee group 12 TVÖD
It is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 39 hours. Prerequisites are a completed academic university degree ( Master or Master ) in art history as well as well-founded practical museum and exhibition experience, including the independent creation of all text formats, in an art and cultural history museum.
A pronounced interest in current forms of presentation and mediation, the willingness to interdisciplinarity and to cooperate with partners in art, culture and science, the ability to work in a team and project, Communication and organizational skills as well as initiative.
The tasks include
– conservation support and research into the collection
– scientific development of stocks
– editorial work on the Emil Schumacher catalog raisonné
– Collection and depot management
– Participation in all projects in the house such as exhibitions, publications, placement offers ( analog and digital )
– Ensuring the flow of information and working with numerous bodies, e.g. with administration and accounting, development team, restoration, education and mediation
– Press and public relations including social media
your profile
– Completed academic university degree in art history ( Magister or Master )
– Very good expressiveness in spoken and written ( Proof of publications and text examples requested )
– Experience in museum work ( Proof of volunteering or comparable work experience )
– Experience in the field of museum inventory of cultural assets desired
– Experience with archive-specific databases desired
– IT and office knowledge ( Word, Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint )
– Very good knowledge of German and English, further foreign language skills desired
– High communication and team skills
– Tackling type, hands-on mentality
