Stadt-Up Frankfurt – Curator (m/f/d)

“Only those who question the old can create the new.” The Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) is seeking dedicated Curators for its “Stadt-Up Frankfurt” project. Following a three-year renovation, the DAM will return to the Museumsufer in Frankfurt and resume its regular operations. The museum hosts 10 to 15 changing exhibitions on architecture and urban planning annually, along with over 300 events. As a Curator, you will play a key role in conceptualizing and realizing international exhibitions and events, developing accompanying publications and marketing strategies, and acquiring sponsorships and funding.
Your Responsibilities
- Independently conceptualize and implement exhibitions on architecture and urban planning.
- Organize international follow-up stations for your exhibitions and coordinate exhibition-related publications and public events.
- Develop marketing strategies and promotional materials.
- Acquire donations and sponsorship funds, and prepare funding applications for private, cultural, academic, economic, and political institutions.
- Create didactic formats for diverse audiences and design measures to attract visitors, in collaboration with the museum’s education department.
- Research and evaluate current architectural developments.
- Represent the museum leadership in scientific matters and contribute to the strategic conceptualization and further development of the DAM.
- Manage the organizational and content-related aspects of venue rentals and events, including legal and business management, as well as support the technical operations of the DAM.
- Train and mentor scientific trainees and staff in museum management.
Your Profile
- A completed university degree (Diploma (Univ.)/Master) in art history or cultural studies, ideally with a specialization in architectural history or architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of architectural history and/or the current architecture scene.
- Several years of practical experience in exhibitions and museum work.
- Proven competence in architectural publication, academic writing, and transfer-oriented formats.
- Ability to work methodically with people of different age groups and educational backgrounds.
- Experience in organizing conferences and other public scientific events.
- Leadership skills in training, deployment, further education, and motivation of staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in German (at least C2 level) and in English.
- Strong commitment, teamwork, organizational skills, intercultural competence, and gender sensitivity.
