Wien Museum is seeking a Curator with a focus on painting and graphic art of the classical modern period to join the Department of Art. The successful candidate will be responsible for the scholarly management, research, and curatorial development of this key collection, with an emphasis on inclusive, multi-perspective exhibition practices.

This role is central to advancing the museum’s mission as an open and accessible institution that engages with Vienna’s cultural history and its relevance to contemporary urban life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Academic care and strategic development of the painting and graphic art collection
  • Providing expert information on artworks and archival material
  • Curating innovative exhibitions with a participatory and interdisciplinary approach
  • Conducting independent research and delivering publications and lectures
  • Collaborating closely with departments including conservation, education, and communications

Candidate Profile

  • Advanced degree in Art History or related field
  • Expertise in classical modernism with global contextual knowledge
  • Strong familiarity with Viennese and Austrian art and cultural history
  • Proven track record of scholarly research
  • Experience in collection care and museum curation
  • Ability to communicate art history to a broad audience
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
